Man robs purse from Wantagh woman, 81

Police are searching for a man who robbed an 81-year-old woman as she got out of her car Thursday night in Wantagh.

Nassau County police said the attack and robbery took place on Wheel Barrow Lane at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the 81-year-old victim "felt tugging on her pocketbook" as she was getting out of her car and turned to find the robber.

Police said she struggled with the man, described as 6 feet tall, thin, in his mid- to late 20s and wearing gray sweatpants and sweatshirt. The man took the pocketbook, including cash and credit cards, and fled.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
