Man shot as he sits in car in Westbury
A gunman opened fire on a man sitting in a parked car in Westbury early Saturday, wounding his arm, hand and stomach, Nassau County police said.
Authorities said that no one has been caught in connection with the shooting, and the victim, 37, remains hospitalized following surgery.
Right after the 4 a.m. shooting near Belmont Avenue and Fulton Street, the victim jumped out of the vehicle and ran toward Post Avenue, and patrons at Avanti, a nearby night club, helped him, he told police.
Investigators at the scene found shell casings from two different weapons -- a .40-caliber and a .38-caliber, police said. The victim claimed to be unarmed, police said.
The victim, who is from Brentwood, couldn't provide police with a detailed description of the shooter. It was unclear why he was in the car.
Detectives from the Williston Park-based Third Squad, which is investigating, asked anyone who knows about the shooting to call their hotline: 800-244-TIPS.
