One man was shot in the hip as four armed men made off with cash, jewelry and a cellphone in a Roosevelt robbery Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

First Squad detectives said that the four men approached two other men, each 20 years old, who were leaving a home on Thomas Place at about 9:15 p.m.

The four robbers demanded money and took a cellphone and earrings from the two victims and also physically assaulted them, police said.

The four ordered the two victims back into the house, where there were two other men, ages 23 and 24. The two men inside the home attempted to flee, and the 24-year-old was shot in the hip.

Police said that the victims were then able to lock themselves in a room and call police.

All four robbers escaped before police arrived, and two men, including the shooting victim, were taken to a nearby hospital.

Police Wednesday morning did not provide an updated condition on the shooting victim.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
