A man told police he was shot twice in the lower leg and hip and robbed Thursday night as he walked along Archer Street in Freeport.

Nassau County police are searching for the gunman while the victim, whose identity was not released, recovers after being treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

Police said the incident occurred Thursday at 8:05 p.m.

Police said the victim told them he was walking along Archer - and a robber armed with a gun walked up to him and demanded cash.

The victim said he refused to hand over his money and the gunman then fired at him three times. He was struck twice, police said.

The gunman removed money from the victim's pockets, then fled, police said.
