Man shot twice in Hempstead, in stable condition
A 29-year-old man was shot twice - once in the stomach, once in the knee - in Hempstead early Tuesday, police said.
Nassau County police have not released the identity of the victim, but said he was taken by a private car to a hospital and was admitted in stable condition. The shooting occurred at 12:30 a.m. near Laurel and Elm avenues, police said.
Police said a passerby heard the shots and found the wounded man. It was not immediately clear if others witnessed the shooting or how many assailants were involved.
The circumstances of the shooting also were not immediately known Tuesday.
