A 36-year-old man playing basketball was shot once in the wrist in a drive-by shooting at Lincoln Park in Hempstead Wednesday night, Nassau County police said.

Police are searching for the shooter or shooters.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, drove himself to Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre and had surgery overnight to remove the bullet.

Police said the man was playing basketball with a group of people at Lincoln Park on East Graham and South Franklin Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. when gunfire erupted from a black vehicle out on the street.

The victim did not realize he had been shot until he felt "a burning sensation" in his wrist, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.

All calls will remain confidential, police said.
