Police on Long Island are looking for a man who tried to lure children into his van.

Nassau County police say the suspect attempted on five occasions to get girls, ages 8 through 16, into his van.

The incidents happened between April 13 and Thursday.

In two, the man tried to entice the girls with candy. In three of the cases, the children were walking to or from school.

Police say the incidents have occurred in Lakeview, Lynbrook, and Valley Stream.

Children are advised to walk in groups and not take shortcuts through alleys, vacant lots or parks.

Anyone with information about the incidents or the suspect is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
