Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announced Thursday that a benefit art show and concert for victims of this month's earthquake and tsunami in Japan will be held April 2 in Albertson.

The art show, exhibiting the work of students and teachers of the Long Island Conservatory of Music, will begin at 4 p.m. at Albert Hall, 1125 Willis Ave. A classical music concert performed by members of the school's faculty will follow at 6 p.m.

"I am so pleased that the Long Island Conservatory has taken the initiative . . . to help," Mangano said at a news conference in Mineola.

Maggie Yamamoto, of Roslyn, who was introduced at the news conference as a leader of the Japanese community in Nassau, said that while her family is from Osaka and was physically unhurt by the catastrophes, "they, like all of Japan, are emotionally devastated by it."

Donations can be made at the door, with proceeds going to the Red Cross' Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Relief program," said Patricia Schust, executive director of the nonprofit conservatory.
