A Manhasset ophthalmologist will square off against dozens of rivals in the seventh-annual Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition.

Michael Slavin, 65, is the only Long Islander and one of eight New York residents chosen for the June 19-25 competition in Fort Worth, Texas, the organization said.

The contest, held every four years, is open to pianists older than 35 who do not derive most of their income from performing or teaching piano.

Slavin was chosen out of 159 submissions from 21 countries, including Brazil, China, Hungary and South Africa. The 72 amateur pianists selected will compete for the top prize of $2,000.

Slavin did not return calls for comment.
