Manslaughter charge in biker's death
A Roosevelt man is being held without bail on manslaughter and drunken driving charges after driving into oncoming traffic early Tuesday on a Hempstead street and hitting and killing a motorcyclist, Nassau County's Homicide Squad said.
Trevor McBride, 35, of 117 Underhill Ave., was driving a 1964 Chevrolet north in the southbound lane of Greenwich Street at about 12:36 a.m. when he hit a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle driven by William Escobar, 34, detectives said.
The crash sent Escobar flying from the motorcycle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
McBride continued north on Greenwich Street toward Willow Avenue with the motorcycle attached to the front of the sedan before coming to a stop, police said.
Police said McBride also was found to have a small bag of marijuana.
McBride was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving, DWI and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
He was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead and scheduled to return to court Thursday.
