Nassau County police are looking for a masked man who pistol-whipped another man in a robbery attempt early Wednesday in North Bellmore.

First Squad detectives said a man, 33, was returning to his Leonard Street residence at about 1 a.m. when he was approached by a man with a handgun.

The gunman, wearing a ski mask, demanded the man's property, and when he did not turn it over the gunman struck him "multiple times in the head and arm," police said in a news release.

The gunman then entered a "silver or gold Jeep Cherokee," which drove off toward Stewart Avenue, police said.

The gunman did not get any proceeds, and the victim declined medical attention at the scene, police said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
