Northbound County Line Road at Sunrise Highway in Massapequa was closed for several hours and a nearby condo was evacuated after a package on a delivery truck emitted smoke and a foul odor, Nassau County police said.
The police Emergency Service Unit and other agencies responded about 10:38 a.m. and concluded after several hours that there were no gases, radiation or explosives from any packages on the United Parcel Service truck, police said in a statement. Police said they never discovered the source of the odor and smoke.
The driver of the truck reported his suspicions in a 911 call after making a delivery at the Oaks Condominium Complex on County Line Road, police said.
The condominium was evacuated as a precaution, and northbound lanes were closed until about 5 p.m., a police spokesman said.
