Massapequa man arrested in knifepoint robberies
Nassau County police announced the arrest of a Massapequa man in a series of knifepoint gas station robberies at various locations this summer.
Kevin Washington, 43, of 4 Soloff Rd., was arrested Friday afternoon in Massapequa after an investigation by the county Robbery Squad, and with the assistance of the Bureau of Special Operations, police said.
Detectives said Washington was responsible for the following robberies:
· Sunoco Gas Station at 1220 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale, at 12:55 a.m. June 27
· Mobil Gas Station at 1214 Grand Ave., Baldwin, at 4:15 a.m. Aug. 16
· Mobil Gas Station at 79 Old Country Rd., Westbury, at 2:28 a.m. Aug. 27
· BP Gas Station at 199 Broadway, Hicksville, at 1:27 a.m. Sept. 11
In addition to those robberies, Washington committed a larceny at the BP Gas Station at 1878 Hempstead Tpke. in East Meadow on Aug. 1, police said.
Washington is being charged with four counts of first-degree robbery, four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, petty larceny and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
An arraignment is scheduled for Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
