A Freeport man, rescued by firefighters Tuesday after a fire engulfed a Massapequa Park home, died Friday, Nassau police said.

Brian Moran, 58, was rescued from the basement and initially taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but he died of his injuries, police said.

Two other residents, suffering from smoke inhalation, also had to be taken to hospitals, and one firefighter was treated at the site for exhaustion, police said in a statement Wednesday.

None of the other victims' identities were released as the investigation continues.

Massapequa firefighters responded to the fire on Eastlake Avenue at 4:36 p.m., said Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro. The fire was under control in an hour, he said.
