A teacher at Birch Lane Elementary School in Massapequa Park contacted Nassau County police after a student sent the teacher a threatening note through Facebook, a school district spokeswoman confirmed Thursday.

"The teacher received a threatening message and the teacher notified police," Deirdre Gilligan, spokeswoman for Massapequa Public Schools, said Thursday morning.

There is no threat to the school or students, so school is in session and not locked down, Gilligan said.

Gilligan would not disclose the name of the teacher. Questions to district Superintendent Charles Sulc's office were referred to Gilligan.

Gilligan also said she was not sure exactly how the threat reached the teacher through Facebook.

Police confirmed a report was made and that the teacher requested no other action be taken.
