A 22-year-old Massapequa woman caught shoplifting with her toddler son beside her was arrested after injuring a store worker who tried to stop her Tuesday, police said.

Nassau County police said a Walmart security guard saw Jaime L. Donnelly of South Merrick Road hide several items, including cosmetics and clothing, in her handbag on Tuesday.

When she left the East Massapequa store without paying, the guard followed her to the Sunrise Mall parking lot and tried to stop her, police said. She struck the man, 25, with a key chain, cutting him near his right eye, police said.

Police officers called to the scene arrested Donnelly about 7:45 p.m. They found she had pills believed to be oxycodone, police said. The security officer was treated at a hospital and released, police said.

Donnelly was charged with second-degree robbery, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. She will be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Police said her son, 3, was released to the custody of his grandmother.
