A North Massapequa woman has been charged with forging checks and stealing more than $50,000 from a friend's bank account, Nassau County police said early Wednesday.
Police said a 73-year-old woman had asked her friend Maureen Adamo, 52, to help make sure her bills were paid while she recovered from a medical procedure. Starting in January, police said, Adamo began to forge checks from the woman's account and deposited them into her own, stealing a total of more than $50,000.
Adamo, of 366 Briarwood Rd., was found in Bethpage on Tuesday and arrested, police said. She is charged with second-degree grand larceny and four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
She is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
