A 53-year-old man suffered "serious physical injury" after being struck by a boat propeller Sunday afternoon in the waters off Meadow Island, Nassau County police said.

Police said the man was airlifted by police medevac helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police did not immediately detail what injuries the man suffered. His identity was not released.

Police said the incident was reported in a 911 call at about 3:40 p.m. and said responding Marine Bureau officers, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, rendered aid to the injured man.

It was not immediately clear if the victim had been a passenger aboard the boat that struck him — and, if so, how he got into the water.

Meadow Island is located along the Loop Parkway, bordered by Jones Bay, and is just north of the Jones Beach boat basin and west and northeast of Point Lookout.
