A Nassau police cruiser was apparently involved in an accident that left southbound lanes of the Meadowbrook Parkway temporarily closed near North Merrick at the Southern State Parkway around 8:30 p.m.

The lanes have since been reopened, police said in a news release sent out about 11:20 p.m.

"It does appear to have been one of ours," a police spokesman wrote in an email.

The accident took place as snow showers fell on some parts of Long Island, but it was not immediately known whether the weather was a factor.
