Men had pot, gun along with baby in car: police
Two New Cassel men were charged with endangering the welfare of a child Monday after police said two plainclothes officers witnessed the men rolling a joint in a car that had a 5-month-old baby as a passenger and later found a handgun on the floor.
Nassau County police said Marc Jasmin, 25, of Fourth Avenue, and Ralph Dorneval, 25, of Magnolia Avenue, were arrested near the intersection of Post Avenue and Old Country Road in Westbury at 7:20 p.m. The baby, who police identified as Jasmin's son, was unharmed. He was later released to his mother.
Police said the two men were in a 1995 Acura with the child in an infant seat in the rear of the car when plainclothes officers observed them "rolling a marijuana cigarette."
Police said in a news release they stopped the car and found a silver handgun with a loaded magazine on the rear passenger side floor. They said a "glassine envelope containing marijuana" also was recovered.
Both men were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
Both are scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
