Police: portion of Merrick Road closed due to downed wires

A portion of Merrick Road in Merrick was closed in both directions Friday evening after a utility pole and wires were found in a roadway, Nassau police said.

Motorists are asked to avoid driving near Lindenmere Drive and Babylon Turnpike while crews work to fix the problem, police said.
