Michael C. Lamarca, 37, of Elmont, was arrested Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, charged with grand larceny and petit larceny, accused of stealing jewelry from customers as an employee of Gentil Moving Services in Garden City Park and then selling them to pawnshops, police said. Credit: NCPD

A routine check of pawnshop transactions turned into the arrest of an Elmont man on larceny charges after detectives learned he made multiple sales to two pawnbrokers in Nassau County, police said.

The pawned items were then traced to jewelry stolen during moves by the victims using a moving company where the suspect worked, police said.

Michael C. Lamarca, 37, of 1328 Eagle Ave., was arrested at an Elmont pawnbroker on Monday on two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and petit larceny.

At arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, Lamarca was ordered held on $2,000 bond or $1,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court Thursday.

Police said Lamarca, as an employee of Gentil Moving Services in Garden City Park, stole "assorted jewelry" from customers -- selling the items at local pawnshops. The value of the items was not released.

Police said Lamarca was arrested while leaving Enterprise Pawn Brokers in Elmont just after 5 p.m.
