A hit-and-run in Hempstead left a 42-year-old Hicksville man dead early Sunday morning, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The victim was identified Monday as Michael Maletta, Nassau police said. He was riding a bicycle along Peninsula Boulevard at around 4 a.m., when he was struck by a white BMW.

The driver fled the scene and has not yet been found, according to the report. Maletta was pronounced dead at the scene by a Northwell Health paramedic.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. Police said the caller will remain anonymous.
