Nassau County police charged a Uniondale man with attempted murder, after he allegedly knocked a woman unconscious with a toilet tank cover and stabbed her.
Police said the couple were fighting shortly before 12:30 a.m. at their home Saturday when Michael Taylor, 50, hit the 50-year-old woman in the head with the toilet tank cover.
Police said Taylor stabbed the woman in the head, neck and back with a knife until she woke up and ran away to call police.
When police arrived, Taylor refused to leave the home and engaged police in a stand off for about two hours, authorities said. Police found Taylor hiding inside a basement wall when he was arrested.
The woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.
Taylor was charged with second degree attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, contempt and aggravated criminal contempt. He was arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead, where his bail and bond were set at $500,000. He is scheduled to return to court Tuesday.
