Missing duck hunter found, officials say

Three men who were duck hunting near Point Lookout on Christmas Day evening were rescued by Nassau County police and the U.S. Coast Guard, officials said Wednesday.

The Coast Guard responded to a water rescue call at Seadog Creek north of Point Lookout about 5 p.m. after one of two boaters signaled for help when the vessel began to have engine trouble, officials said.

When Hempstead Town bay constables, who also assisted with the search and located the hunters, arrived, the boaters — ages 39 and 55 — told authorities that another man was still out hunting.

While the boat, along with the two men, was towed to West Marina, near Point Lookout, a police helicopter was dispatched to search for the third man, 40, later found to be stranded in a marsh, police said. The helicopter landed on the marsh and lifted the man to safety.
