Moderate risk of rip current for LI Atlantic Ocean beaches, weather service says

There is a moderate risk of rip current Monday at Long Island beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean, the National Weather Service.

The weather service also warned of "a small chance" of strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the main threat being from damaging wind gusts.

Waves off the ocean side of Long Island were expected to run 2 to 4 feet Monday, and waves on Long Island Sound were expected to be about 1 foot.

Seas were expected to build as wind increases and could run as high as 5 feet until late Tuesday night, and lingering into Wednesday morning east of Moriches Inlet before abating, the weather service said.
