Mom, daughters charged in shoplifting
A mother and her two daughters were arrested Wednesday evening after the trio stole more than $2,500 worth of merchandise from a J.C. Penney store in the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, police said.
Nassau County police said Cynthia Richardson, 49, of Prospect Place, Brooklyn, daughter Kizzy Polhill, 24, and a second daughter, who was not identified because she is a juvenile, placed clothing into shopping bags and exited the store without paying for them.
But while the trio got out of the store, they didn't get far. Police said a loss prevention officer employed by J.C. Penney stopped Richardson and her daughters in the parking lot and held them until police arrived to make the arrests.
Richardson and Polhill were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. They are scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
The second daughter was charged as a juvenile and released to a relative, police said.
