More snow expected Tuesday, then warmer temps

Springlike temperatures are expected by the week's end but not before Long Islanders pay by sweating out another rush-hour snowfall Tuesday morning.
The brunt of 2 to 4 inches is expected to fall from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., making the morning commute hazardous, but as temperatures rise from the 20s through to the high 30s the wet snow should change to rain by about 4 p.m. for Nassau and 6 p.m. for western Suffolk, the National Weather Service said.
Western Suffolk could even see up to 5 inches of snow before the change, forecasters said.
"It's going to turn to rain by the afternoon, and then you're going to get slush all over the place," said meteorologist Lauren Nash at the service's Upton office.
Eastern Suffolk may get up to 2 inches of snow or just rain, she said.
Lows Tuesday night will be back in the 20s. But the weather will turn milder as the week marches on, with highs in the 40s and then rising up to a high of 54 degrees Friday, the service said.
Of course, some rain must fall on that improving outlook, and there is a chance for it every day this week until the sun breaks out Saturday, according to the forecast.
