More than 2,300 lose power in Uniondale, LIPA says
An underground cable failure at Mitchel Field caused more than 2,300 Long Island Power Authority customers in Uniondale to lose power for almost a half hour Monday, a company spokesman said.
Then, while repair crews were attempting to restore power, a primary feeder cable on Front Street came down - causing minor delays to restoring all customers, LIPA spokesman Mark Gross said.
The incident first began at about 9:50 a.m.
Gross said all but 27 of the 2,369 affected customers had power restored within 28 minutes. The other customers had their power restored within the next half-hour - a total delay of 58 minutes, Gross said.
The cause of the cable failure has not yet been determined and remains under investigation, Gross said.
