Cops: Motorcyclist killed in crash with tractor trailer

A man was killed Sunday afternoon in Bellmore when his motorcycle slid into the back of gas tanker tractor trailer, Nassau County police said.
The 44-year-old motorcyclist, traveling west on Sunrise Highway just east of Newbridge Road, was trying to stop when his 2011 Harley Davidson “dropped and slid” into the back of the tractor trailer, police said.
The collision occurred at 3:55 p.m. The motorcyclist, whose identity was not released, was declared dead at the scene by a Nassau County police medic.
The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to an area hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, police said.
The motorcycle was impounded for a brake and safety check, police said.
