A 35-year-old man was killed on his motorcycle Friday night when he collided with a minivan in Meadowmere, Nassau County police said.

The victim was on a 2007 Suzuki traveling southbound on Rockaway Turnpike. He struck the rear of a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by a 72-year-old man, about 8 p.m.

The minivan driver was traveling northbound on Rockaway Turnpike and made a left turn, in the vicinity of Rugby Road, cutting across the victim's path of travel, police said

After striking the vehicle, the motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered severe head trauma. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m. by a staff physician.

A brake check was conducted at the scene on the 2003 Chrysler minivan which was released to the owner. The victim's motorcycle was impounded for safety checks.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
