A motorcycle rider was thrown from his Harley-Davidson and severely injured Sunday afternoon when he collided with a car in Farmingdale, police said.

Nassau police said the 52-year-old man was traveling south on Round Swamp Road near Quaker Meeting House Road when the driver of a 2009 Nissan merged onto the road, causing the motorcycle to strike the car.

The motorcyclist was treated on the scene for a leg wound and then airlifted by Nassau County Police helicopter to a nearby hospital, where he was in serious condition.

Police filed no charges but impounded both vehicles for safety checks.
