MTA: Travis Rittenhouse fatally struck by train
Metropolitan Transportation Authority police Wednesday identified the man struck and killed early Tuesday by an LIRR train at the Syosset station as Travis Rittenhouse of Huntington.
Police said that their investigation is continuing, but they have no reason to believe there was any criminality involved, according to Salvatore Arena, a spokesman for the commuter service.
The train's engineer told police he saw Rittenhouse, 34, on the eastbound track near the platform as the train was making a scheduled stop at the station at around 12:45 a.m.
The engineer said he was unable to stop before striking Rittenhouse.
Meredith Daniels, an LIRR spokeswoman, said Tuesday that Rittenhouse appeared to be "trying to go from one platform to another" when he was struck and killed.
