Crack cocaine was concealed in the mouth of a North Bellmore man, police said, when officers struggled with him Tuesday morning trying to arrest him.

Douglas H. Fromwiller, 48, of 2399 Elk Ct. in North Bellmore was subdued and charged with resisting arrest, second degree assault, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Fromwiller was first seen by the officers crouching between a building and a truck near the intersection of Newbridge and North Jerusalem roads about 1 a.m., police said. The two officers said Fromwiller appeared suspicious and they approached him, police said.

During the struggle that followed, the two officers and Fromwiller fell to the ground because of the icy conditions, police said.

One of the two Nassau officers involved was treated afterward at a hospital for a fractured right hand, police said.
