A North Bellmore man died Friday from injuries suffered in a head-on collision, his family said Saturday.

Robert Lazos, 23, was pronounced dead Friday at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital, according to a hospital official and his family.

Lazos was driving a 2005 black Mazda north on Route 106 near Sanders Place at about 5:30 p.m. when he collided head-on with a 2006 gray Nissan heading south, Nassau County police said.

Lazos was taken by Nassau County ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for serious head and facial injuries, police said. He was then transferred to North Shore-LIJ in critical condition.

His father, Bobby Lazos, declined to comment Saturday.

The driver of the Nissan, a 37-year-old man, was taken by the North Bellmore Fire Department to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said. The investigation was ongoing and police report no apparent criminality.
