An Albertson man has been arraigned on charges of attempted sexual assault and attempted endangering after exposing himself on a webcam to an undercover officer posing as an 11-year-old girl, prosecutors in New Jersey said.
Mohamed Elzamzamy, 23, of I.U. Willets Road, was arrested Tuesday at a hotel in Franklin County, N.J., by detectives from the Somerset County prosecutor's office, the Somerset County Sheriff's Office and the Franklin Township Police Department, law enforcement officials said.
The arrest came after an eight-month investigation by the Computer Crimes Unit, which is made up of detectives from the prosecutor's and sheriff's offices.
An undercover detective posing as an 11-year-old girl encountered Elzamzamy online, according to a news release.
"Thereafter, defendant Elzamzamy engaged in online communications of a sexual nature with the undercover detective. While communicating with the undercover detective, defendant Elzamzamy used a webcam to expose himself to the undercover detective," the release said.
Elzamzamy was arraigned on charges of attempted sexual assault and attempted endangering the welfare of a child and released on $20,000 bail.
