Two men who tried to steal a cash register in North Woodmere fled with nothing after they dropped the register on their way out of the store, police said.

The two walked into a Shell gas station on Rosedale Road Monday at 6 p.m., flashed a handgun and announced a stickup, police said. The station employee quickly opened and closed the register. The robbers then tried to take the register but dropped it, police said.

The two fled west on foot, police said.

No one was injured.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous, police said.
