At least 36 people were arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated over the New Year's holiday weekend in Nassau County, authorities said Sunday.
Nassau police said they made 28 DWI arrests from 5 p.m. Friday, New Year's Eve, until 7 a.m. Saturday, New Year's Day and eight DWI arrests from 7 a.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday.
The arrests came as police added officers to patrol units for the holiday, a spokeswoman said.
The arrest numbers were similar to the 29 made last year from 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve until 9 a.m. New Year's Day, according to news reports.
No DWI statistics were available Sunday from the Suffolk police. A spokeswoman said the numbers would be compiled Monday.
