Nassau County police are investigating two armed robberies at BP Gas stations in New Hyde Park and Thomaston that occurred within less than an hour of each other on Monday night, as a winter storm raged through the region.

Around 5:45 p.m., a male suspect with a black handgun entered the gas station at 1301 Jericho Tpke. in New Hyde Park and demanded cash from the male attendant, Third Squad detectives said.

The man fired one round from the weapon into the counter before fleeing north on foot on Abraham Lane with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. There were no injuries reported, police said in a news release.

The suspect was described as about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 160 pounds, with his head and faced covered, police said. He was wearing dark gloves, a dark jacket and gray pants, they said.

In a separate robbery, a male suspect displayed a black handgun at a gas station located at 655 Northern Blvd. in Thomaston, near Great Neck, around 6:45 p.m. and demanded the male attendant to hand over cash from the register, police said.

The suspect fired once into the wall, causing no injuries, and fled west on foot on Northern Boulevard with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The man was described as about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 150 pounds, police said. He was wearing dark gloves, a dark jacket and a dark mask over his face, police said.

Police are still investigating to see whether the two armed robberies are connected, a police spokeswoman said.
