Nassau police are investigating two bank robberies within 40 minutes Friday evening, each involving suspects who each handed over a demand note and stole an undetermined amount of cash from a TD Bank branch.

The first robbery occurred at 7:15 p.m. at the TD Bank at 252 Peninsula Blvd. in Hempstead, police said.

In that case the suspect also handed over a demand note to a teller, police said. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect in the second robbery was described as being 5 feet, 11 inches tall, about 180 to 190 pounds, 30 to 35 years old with a medium build and black hair, police said. "He was unshaven and was wearing a black sweatshirt, black peacoat, black sweatpants, dark sneakers and sunglasses," police said.

The second robbery occurred at 7:55 p.m. at TD Bank, 111 Mineola Blvd., Roslyn Heights, Nassau County police said early Saturday in a news release.

After handing over a demand note, the suspect made "verbal threats" and was given money, police said. He fled west on Villa Street. None of the four workers present were injured.

He was described as about 30 years old and 5 feet 3 inches tall. He wore a blue vest and blue jeans with a red, long-sleeved, flannel shirt and a black hat with a brim.

Detectives urge anyone with information about either robbery to anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
