Nassau detectives seek the public's help in finding a white van and a Lincoln that have followed teenage girls as they walked on streets, police said.

Police said they didn't know if the two vehicles were connected in the six reported incidents this month.

The vehicle's occupants, wearing black ski masks in one case, would drive by the girls several times or ask them if they needed rides, Nassau police said. When the girls ran or took out cellphones, the drivers would take off, police said.

In the earliest reported case, a 15-year-old girl was walking north on Peapond Road in North Bellmore about 5 p.m. Jan. 2 when a white van approached, police said. When the occupant asked if she wanted a ride, the girl ran off and the van took off north on Peapond Road, police said.

Then at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 4 in North Merrick, a white van with two males in ski caps repeatedly passed a girl, 15, walking on Sycamore Avenue near Losee Court, police said. When she took out her cellphone, the car took off north on Sycamore, police said.

That same day, a white van shadowed girls twice in North Bellmore, police said. In one case, a 15-year-old noticed a van with orange-yellow New York license plates driving behind her around Saw Mill Road and Odell Street, police said. Another girl, 13, reported being trailed by a white van with tinted windows and orange-yellow New York plates in the vicinity of Anchor Court , police said.

At 4 p.m. Monday in East Meadow, a male in a dark-colored four-door Lincoln offered a ride to two girls, both 13, at Front Street and Coolidge Drive, police said. The girls crossed the street, and the Lincoln went west on Front Street, police said.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday in Merrick, two males in a white van approached a 13-year-old girl walking on Rhode Avenue by William Street, police said. She walked away and the van went south on Rhode Avenue, police said.

No injuries have been reported.

Anyone with information may call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
