Correction officer in 8-hour standoff charged
A Nassau County correction officer faces charges after an eight-hour standoff with police that ended early Saturday.
Scott Sherman, 42, of Port Washington, is charged with second-degree kidnapping, first- and second-degree assault and second-degree menacing as well as endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing governmental administration.
Police were called to Sherman's residence around 7 p.m. Friday on a domestic disturbance call. He was arrested at about 2:48 a.m. after he surrendered to Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations officers who had negotiated with him over the phone, police said. He was taken to a hospital for undisclosed reasons.
A Nassau County Police spokesman said more details were not available.
