Authorities have determined a body found earlier this month in the waters off Island Park was a homicide victim.

In an investigation update on Friday, Nassau County police said a forensic review conducted by the Nassau County Medical Examiner's Office had determined the injuries sustained by the victim were "consistent with being beaten and stabbed."

In a news release, police said the case was now part of a homicide investigation. Police also are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 516-573-7788 or dial 911.

Police had responded to a 911 call around 11:05 a.m. on April 8 reporting a body in the water near Railroad Place off Reynolds Channel in Island Park. They recovered the body of a male who was declared dead at the scene by police paramedics.

The victim was about 5-foot-4 and weighed about 130 pounds, police said.

He is believed to have been a teen or perhaps 20 years old.

Police said the victim was wearing black cargo pants and a beige T-shirt with black lettering and the word "ARCH" on it — over other wording, numbers and logos. Additional information was not available.
