Nassau County is staging a gun buyback program Saturday at the Bishop R.W. Harris Grace Cathedral in Uniondale.

The event at the facility at 944 Jerusalem Ave. runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

Individuals anonymously turning in weapons will be paid $100 for each rifle, $200 for each handgun and $400 for each assault rifle.

Guns must be in operating condition and be presented unloaded in a shoe box or a paper or plastic bag.

Licensed guns, BB guns, air pistols and replicas will not be accepted.

Asset forfeiture funds from Nassau County Police Department and the Nassau County district attorney are used to fund the buyback program, county officials said.
