Got an illegal gun?

Well, if you do, the Nassau County Police Department is asking you to surrender it Saturday -- no questions asked, cash paid for your weapon.

The three-hour gun buyback program will take place between 9 a.m. and noon at Grace Cathedral, 944 Jerusalem Ave., Uniondale. The church is near the corner of Union Avenue.

Police said that, in surrendering a weapon, you remain "strictly anonymous."

Better still, you'll receive $100 cash for any rifle, $200 for any handgun and $400 for any assault rifle. All guns surrendered must be operable, police said. No licensed guns, BB guns, air pistols or replicas are eligible for surrender.

Police require only that any gun transported be unloaded and in a plastic bag, a paper bag or a shoe box. If transported by car, the gun must be placed in the trunk.

The program is a joint effort of the police department and the office of Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
