Freeport Police arrested two men Thursday night with more than 200 illegal fireworks and explosives in Freeport, according to Nassau County police.

Police were responding to an alarm at a building where the men were storing fireworks about 9:20 p.m., according to a Nassau police statement.

The arson and bomb squad arrested Duane P. Ennis, 38 of West Hempstead and Alex R. Vazquez, 33, of Laurelton. A 13-year-old boy was with the two men and later released to a parent, police said.

Police seized 124 cases of consumer grade fireworks, which were imported illegally from out of state, 60 pieces of commercial grade explosives used by licensed pyrotechnicians and 34 pieces of illegal homemade explosives, Nassau Police Officer Maureen Roach said.

Ennis and Vazquez are each charged with one count of possession of explosives, one count of storage of explosives, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawfully dealing with fireworks and endangering the welfare of a child.

They were both arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

All fireworks are illegal in New York, Roach said.
