Central Islip man drove drunk with daughter, 12, in vehicle, police say
Old Westbury police took a Central Islip man into custody early Sunday for driving drunk with his 12-year-old daughter in the vehicle, Nassau County police said.
Jose Saravia, 41, faces charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of driving while intoxicated, failing to maintain a lane of travel and failure to signal a turn.
Police said they stopped Saravia at about 3 a.m. Sunday after he made multiple traffic violations while driving a white 2006 Cadillac on Guinea Woods Road. Police said Saravia had “glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.” Police said he was arrested without incident and his daughter was removed unharmed from the scene by her mother.
Saravia was scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
