Nassau police investigate 3 postal incidents
Nassau County police are investigating three incidents -- two larcenies and an attempted larceny -- that occurred in Old Bethpage, Farmingdale and Bethpage Wednesday.
According to Second Squad detectives, the first incident, at around 11:15 a.m., involved an attempt to open a locked U.S. Postal Service mail truck parked outside a home on Pasture Lane in Old Bethpage.
Police said two men driving what appeared to be a white 2000 Dodge Odyssey or Chrysler Town and Country minivan with a black bumper bearing out-of-state license plates, attempted to open the locked mail truck. When the men saw the truck was locked, they drove off.
In the next incident, at 12:35 p.m., the men opened several Federal Express boxes left in front of a home on Van Cott Avenue in Farmingdale, removed the contents, left the empty boxes behind and fled in the vehicle.
In the third incident at 1:20 p.m., police said the men removed a UPS package and another package from two homes on Avoca Avenue in Bethpage.
Detectives ask anyone with information on the crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS. All calls are anonymous.
