Nassau County police said Friday they will increase patrols near synagogues during the upcoming Jewish high holy days.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter gathered with religious leaders to discuss the heightened security during the holidays at a news conference Friday at police headquarters in Mineola.

Rosh Hashana is Oct. 2 through 4 and Yom Kippur is Oct. 11 to 12.

“With the recent terror attacks in Manhattan and New Jersey, and unprecedented times around the globe, the Nassau County Police Department has been working tirelessly to stay ahead of any potential threats,” Mangano said, adding that the county “will take any and all threats to public safety seriously as nothing is more important than the safety of our residents.”

According to police there have been no specific threats made but residents are reminded that “if they see something, say something,” officials said.

“Residents can help be the eyes and ears for the police department,” Mangano said. “Don’t assume a package, bag or box was left somewhere by accident. If you see an unattended package, at or outside of a church, temple, train station, synagogue, mall or high traffic area — or if you see anything suspicious, report it. Let the police know. Dial 911.”
