Nassau police officers honored
Nassau County police officers who have distinguished themselves on the job will be honored Monday night.
The 138th departmental awards ceremony, recognizing those who have shown excellence in their field, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Kenneth Riland Theatre in the NYCOM Building of the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Nassau County police commissioner Lawrence Mulvey are expected to attend.
Five different awards will be given, including the Medal of Distinguished Service to Nassau County Det. Wilson Marrero. He is credited with breaking up the Pinkhouses Crew, a group authorities say was responsible for robbing thousands of dollars from numerous clothing and jewelry stores.
The Medal of Commendation, Meritorious Police Service, Life Saving Award and Excellent Police Duty also will be awarded.
